The brilliant history of the hotel Schaffenrath inseparably connects to the host Otto Schaffenrath, who built this hotel. His career is like a modern fairy tale - a fairy tale, however, in which nothing came easy to Otto Schaffenrath. Being a butcher, he and his wife opened the well known “Tavern Lisa” named after his wife at the southern border of Salzburg. At a time as most people only drop in for the legendary goulash while changing from the D- to the T-tramway, the visionary Otto Schaffenrath recognizes the potential of this site very early. His edificial activities contribute to the fact, that the “Alpenstrasse” melts with the city of Salzburg and that the surrounding Herrnau and Josefiau turn into popular residential areas.

Having the groundbreaking ceremony for a hotel in 1978, again Otto Schaffenrath is ahead of the times. According to his visions a hotel that caters for numerous shops on the ground floor arises - and that at a time, when nobody yet speaks of a combination of living, shopping and leisure. In the year 2000 he, jointly with his son Otto and his daughter-in-law Ulrike leads the hotel into the next dimension. A generous building carries the hotel to the next millennium.


Even today, Otto Schaffenrath takes the liberty to assist and advise his son and his daughter-in-law. Seeing that behind the scenes his grandsons already actively contribute to the success of his life's work fulfils the entrepreneur with pride and joy.
